Who We Are

Mark Backlin

My name is Mark and I’ve been working with Adopt-a-Village International for the past 10 years.

My primary focus with AaVI is implementation of medical and dental projects in Ecuador, but I’ve also participated in educational and water projects. I am a retired United States Air Force officer and now dedicate 100% of my time to this very worthy organization. I lived in Ecuador for six years, but now I reside in Peru. Since 2016, we have helped over 10,000 patients across Ecuador with our medical and dental trips.

Make a difference – we need you!!

Hannah Mitchell

My name is Hannah and I’ve been working with Adopt-a-Village since at least 2008. My dad helped found it back in the day, so it’s really been apart of my whole life. When I was 15, I raised about $8,000 for a water tower to be installed in Peru. In 2013, my family and I were able to go on a trip to do a well dedication and see the well for which I had raised money. It was a very rewarding experience to see how many lives I was able to help.

I live in Utah and I am a medical laboratory scientist, meaning I’m the one who runs all the samples that you leave at the doctor’s office. I have two cats, Rockeigh and Rhett. I love to travel and play games with friends.

I want to thank everyone for their continued support for AaVI. 🙂

Karen Mitchell

My name is Karen and I have been involved with Adopt-a-Village International from the beginning. I have been on two trips to Peru, have been involved in numerous fundraising events and have served on the board as both treasurer and secretary. AaVI holds a special place in my heart because it is very fulfilling to know that I am making a difference in the lives of others in our adopted villages in Ecuador and Peru.

I am a retired elementary school teacher. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading and spending time with family.

I want to thank everyone who has been involved in AaVI in the past two decades. Your efforts and continued support are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Dr. Lynn Walker

I am Dr. Lynn Walker.  I am a board-certified Family Medicine physician with 25 years of clinical experience. For many years, I have done medical mission trips on a yearly basis. In 2014, I was fortunate enough to become a board member with Adopt-a-Village International.

Since that time, we have cared for approximately 10,000 patients in rural areas of Ecuador. To make our work more sustainable, we have partnered with in-country medical providers and medical schools. It has been very rewarding to teach Ecuadorian medical students while treating patients. In fact, one medical student told me that he “learned more from me in four days than he had in four years of medical school.”   This made me realize more than ever that education really is the key to making an impactful difference!!  As our mission states, we provide a “hand up, not a handout.”

We truly appreciate the generosity of our donors and hope that you will continue to keep Adopt-a-Village International on your radar for future contributions.  Please tell your friends what a worthy cause this is. Thank you!
